A 26-year-old female asked:

Is cholesterol of 175 and ldl of 105 healthy for a 26 year old woman? i am currently taking isotretinoin, so perhaps these numbers are temporary.

Okay for now: Follow these once you're off the isotretinoin. Taking this difficult medicine is a challenge but being acne-free is very important socially and professionally nowadays. Best wishes.

Temporary: Isotretinoin raises these. The important one is TRIGLYCERIDES, which always go up. Usually the elevations are not high enough to be of concern. If they are very high you may need med and/or diet for it. If significant elevation, check a few weeks after you stop. The effect is gone a week after you finish. After the first month, if the blood tests are not very far from ideal, you need no more blood

Most people need only 1 blood test. This is done after the first month. Sometimes this picks up genetic lipid abnormalities which benefit from treatment. Modest lipid changes, mostly elevated triglycerides, are of no concern.
