How sweet it is: He was trying to pick some roses for you for Valentine's Day. Anyhow the redness implies that the thrones were not only a mechanical irritant but also a chemical irritant or immunological irritant and his body is responding. If you have a tube of 0.5% hydrocortisone put that on the spots and it should take care of it. And get him a pair of gardener's gloves!

Probable local: reaction. If you try the cortisone and it doesn't work, please have him checked by his doctor. You can also give him ibuprofen or acetaminophen for the pain.
