Possible: While it could be swollen enough that you don't see the stinger, it is also possible there was not one left behind. Not all stinging insects leave the stinger in the skin. So unless you know for sure which type stung you, I wouldn't sorry that you can't find a stinger to remove. Put an ice cube over the red area, take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) if very itchy (Topical anti-itch creams usually don't work well).
