Plan well ahead: Create a hurricane evacuation plan with members of your household. You should also practice your evacuation plan. Find out about your community’s hurricane response plan. Plan routes to local shelters, register family members with special medical needs. Remember to make plans for your pets.

Evacuate: These days hurricanes don't sneak up on us. There is usually at least 2 or 3 days notice. Since hurricanes occur in coastal areas with a few hours drive you can reach a safe spot inland to ride out the storm. To avoid traffic don't wait until the last minute.
