Barrett's esophagus: The changes in the esophagus associated with Barrett's progress slowly, beginning with unchanged mucosa and gradually progressing. Most people who have Barrett's never develop cancer, especially if they keep their acid reflux under control. Routine endoscopic surveillance can determine if you're likely to go toward cancer. Your doctor can determine the most appropriate intervals. Good luck.
