31 yr old- was told possible barrett's on egd specimen- gi said he feels pathologist "over read" inflammation- on nexium (esomeprazole) for gerd since egd- ?

See answer: if you were not on a PPI (i.e., nexium) at the time of the EGD which picked up Barrett's, then inflammation (esophagitis) can distort the tissue. It is advisable to repeat biopsies on PPI therapy to better distinguish the two.

Son had upper GI and dr said he had barrets esophogus but biopsy was negative. He has gerd, takes nexium (esomeprazole). Why discrepancy? F/u needed future?
