ER: You need a full exam from an emergency physician first. It depends if you have had an injury and how far the swelling extends up your leg. However you could have a DVT and this should immediately be ruled out and after hours in NY that means visit the ER. Good luck.

Venous thrombosis: I'm not sure what your other symptoms are or your medical history but I'd be concerned about a venous thrombosis. Please see your family doctor immediately for an ultrasound.

Go to the ER : Swelling in just one leg and not the other suggests something localized to one leg rather than a systemic condition associated with fluid retention. While there are many potential causes, the symptoms are concerning for a blood clot, which could be life threatening. You would be wise to go to the ER and urgently evaluated to have this ruled out. A Doppler US and/or a blood test can be used.
