Yes with monitoring: Fluid retention is a common side effect of prednisone. A diuretic can help with the swelling. The swelling itself is most likely water retention which is not dangerous. One option is to not treat it unless your legs hurt or it is causing skin problems. You should also have your urine protein checked. This is the earliest sign of lupus nephritis and could also be a cause of swelling.
