Shoe Fitting: Did the metal slide fit over you great toe bone or was it the wooden stick that only measures where the tip of your big toe is? If this was a true "arch fit" then I would look to the height of the toe box. Logically, it must be the shoe since you are cured when you remove it. You may well be wearing someone else's shoe. Be sure to have at least 1/2 - 3/4 inches free room at end of the toe box.
