We use more CT: Pelvic nodes that serve the ovaries are generally deep and can be hidden by bowel gas on U/S. For node biopsy, some folks do have some success with U/S often using CT as a guide. PET scans can also show nodes that are involved in some pelvic cancers.

Yes,: but not reliably. Regional bowel gas can obscure pelvic lymph nodes. Also the position of the ovaries is variable, and they may not be situated next to internal iliac nodal chains. So not seeing enlarged lymph nodes on a pelvic sonogram is not sufficient to exclude them. CT or MRI is much better.
