Hello, i was diagnosed with strep in the er on december 18, even though strep test was negative and so was culture. i was given amoxicillin and felt b?

Unlikely Strep: The rapid strep test is very good at diagnosing strep, but not eliminating it. I commend the ER for doing a culture as well. If the clinical suspicion was that high, it was right to put you on abx rather than wait 3 days for the culture as the complications can be significant. On the other hand with a negative culture you unlikely had strep, but more likely a viral illness and it just got better!

Strep: It is unlikely that you had strep if both tests were negative but Viral pharyngitis can look similar. You should continue supportive care and it should be shel limiting. If no improvement after 10 days follow up with your doctor
