Is heart burn & globus sensation a sign of a hital hernia? or more likely acid reflux.

Not really : While it could be a symptom of GERD, other conditions exist that would present in similar fashion. Emperic trials of acid suppressant -few weeks and close follow up- advised. If symptoms still- an imaging modality is needed, i.e. Barium swallow, endoscopy with manometry, CT with Oral contrast of neck/chest and abdomen etc. Increase in the size of left atrium may cause globus sensation too. GERD: Heart burn & globus sensation can be in both Hiatal Hernia and Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disorder(GERD) Other symptoms of Hiatal Hernia are- bloated feeling after eating, belching, difficulty swallowing, chest or abdominal pain, vomiting blood or passing black stools or shortness of breath.
