Salivary glands : start functioning around 4 months, causing drooling. Some infants teethe that early, but the central lower incisors usually emerge around 6 months.Wipe out his mouth after the last feed before you put him in his crib when he's drowsy, but awake, to fall asleep, so he's used to it when his teeth do emerge. Red cheeks, fever, diarrhea & "colds" are not related to teething.

No: I have a difficult time believing that "teething" is a real or common issue. It is a convenient label to put on vague and unimportant symptoms in infants. I would continue to monitor baby day to day, and bring issues up with the doc when it bothers you. I can't link this symptom with anything specific.
