YOu can't know: which lobe the pain is coming from! You are describing something in the temple area which could easily be scalp related pain. You don't give your age, but there are several nerves that can cause a sharp pain like this in the area and also a very important artery. If you are over 50, you need to be seen to check for anything serious. Don't rub it. You might distract by rubbing elsewhere.
