Bacteria: Many people develop a white coating on their tongue which requires brushing or gentle scraping to remove. The edges you describe are sometimes seen when a wide tongue had to fit in a narrow jaw between unyielding teeth. The term used is crenulation.

Filiform papillae: The white coating and scalloping tongue is caused by debris and bacteria lodged between the enlarged and sometimes inflamed filiform papillae. The raised lines on the inside of cheeks is due to night teeth clenching. Keep a good oral hygiene and see your dentist for night guard fabrication.
