More effort.: It's very hard to overcome obesity, because genetically, humans have lived with starvation for longer than they have lived with plentiful food. To lose weight, you have to BOTH increase your activity and decrease your caloric intake. Start jogging for 15 minutes/day three times per week (on a schedule), then gradually increase to five times a week, then gradually increase to 30 min/day.

Diet and exercise.: Your first step would be to find a form of aerobic exercise that's not as "hard and messy", as without exercise the benefit of nutritional manipulation will be marginal. Then, you need healthy, low-fat, portion-controlled meals composed of complex carbs and lean proteins. Plenty of posts in my HealthTap feed about this, so search away!!
