A member asked:

Is your abscess meant to bleed out even when your on antibiotics for it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: The only treatment for an abscess is drainage whether it opens up and drains on it's own or preferably surgically. Antibiotics may help prevent spread along the skin but really don't treat an abscess itself. After an abscess is opened, it will usually ooze a pinkish clear fluid for days or sometimes weeks depending on size. This is ok, but thick blood, lots of pus or any worsening is abnormal.
