That depends: That depends on how deep and extensive the abscess is. Antibiotics can help an abscess, even a draining one resolve faster. Regardless of whether it is draining or antibiotic use, you still need to have the infected tooth treated with a root canal procedure or and extraction. The abscess will not resolve until the source of the infection is eliminated.
