My husband's blood pressure is on 2nd stage of hypertension 170/110 over the last month. doctors can't lower it down even after giving him meds. they prescribed enalapril, he had bad reactions to b.p. meds in the past, is enalapril safe?

His blood pressure needs to be lowered and you should try to recall what bad reaction to BP pill he had in the past. If you could not recall and there is no medical record, I would request to have enalapril changed to losartan or valsartan or a medication which is not belonged to angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi). People have bad reaction to ACEi can usually tolerate an ARB drug.

Yes, hypertension turns to be refractory sometimes and work up for possible causes is needed as treatment is started. Enalapril is a typical first line drug used, has side effects like all other drugs and reporting to treating physician is best.
