Recurrent illness: It's ok to stay on it--like most medical illnesses depression can be controlled with meds but not cured If your doc thinks you should go off sertraline he'll probably wean you off of it to avoid discontinuance symptoms although this usually isn't a big problem

Sertraline use: I commend you for your desire to come off Sertraline. For moderate depression maintenance, 100 mg sertraline is a high dose. This dose for 2 years is not needed for treatment of anxiety.
