Inflamed/infected: The tongue typically heals quickly due to the fact that it has a lot of blood flow to it. However, it is easy to keep hitting the same sore spot over and over. Repeated trauma to it (just like any other part of our body) may impede healing and cause inflammation, and possibly even infection (which looks red, swollen, and may or may not have pus coming out of it).
