A member asked:

Can an underbite make my mouth move weird when i talk? i am just now noticing how much my lips and tongue move when i talk (either i talk out my left side or very outward) so i am wondering if after i get the jaw surgery will my lips move normally?

You should really schedule a consultation with a local orthodontist. If the discrepancy in your bite is skeletal in nature, the orthodontist will consult with an oral surgeon, and together your team will devise a treatment plan to give you the smile and appearance you desire.

There are associations between anatomic discrepancies and neuromuscular function. Correcting form may remediate function, but not always. See a qualified Orthodontic specialist to begin your differential diagnosis and assemble a treatment team. Team may include your General Dentist, specialist Oral Surgeon, Speech Pathologist, Physical Therapist, etc. Proper treatment requires adept diagnosis.
