Bowel slowdown...: Nicotine is a cholinergic, i.e. it stimulates bowel activity. If you are withdrawing from nicotine, you may experience bowel slowdown that results in bloating. As such, a fiber laxative, such as Metamucil (R), might be helpful in normalizing bowel function until you re-accommodate to not having nicotine in your system. This might take several weeks or more.
