Bacterial overgrowth: in the stomach and duodenum has UNKNOWN clinical significance in health people. This effect has only been described in very ill Intesive Care Unit patients. This change in bacterial population quickly reverses when the proton -pump inhibitor (egf Prilosec) is discontinued! Hope this helps! Dr Z
