Yes: If a primary lesion metastasizes, the primary or any of the metastatic foci can be used for biopsy purposes. For the most part the tumor cellular pattern remains the same and in terms of immunohistochemistry, the proteins that define the primary are carried into the metastastic lesions which can be biopsied to define that protein needed for therapy that characterizes the primary.
