Healthy diet: A diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, limited carbohydrates and adequate protein is best. Aerobic exercise (running, walking, swimming, cycling) 150 minutes per week or more will hasten weight loss. Expect to lose no more than 1-2 pounds per week. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Dietician: It's best that he consult a dietician at your local hospital who will instruct him and outline a proper weight reduction regimen. Too rapid weight loss is not healthy and usually the weight comes right back after the patient lets up. Slow, steady weight loss at a pound or two a week is best as this is fat tissue that is coming off and is more apt to stay off which should be the goal.
