A member asked:

Does afrin (oxymetazoline) slow down the recovery of a cold? assuming one takes the recommended 3 day usage, and no more.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Afrin (oxymetazoline) & rhinitis.: Afrin (oxymetazoline) doesn't make you sick longer, but it does feel like it. Afrin (oxymetazoline) causes something called "rhinitis medicamentosa" which makes you continually stuffy in the nose even though your sinuses are clearing. The end result is that you still feel sick even though you're improving. It's a medication effect unique to Afrin (oxymetazoline).
