No: In US, it is not common to get iron deficiency from lack of iron in diet. The major cause of iron deficiency is blood loss, either obvious or hidden blood loss from gastrointestinal or genitourinary tracts. For a young man with an otherwise unexplained iron deficiency, gastrointestinal malabsorption of iron may be considered, such as celiac disease, autoimmune atrophic gastritis, etc. See GI.

This is serious: LIsten, friend. Life's tough, but you need to act. You have a bleeding gastric ulcer until proved otherwise. There may be any of numerous other things physically wrong with you, but this is my first concern. If your anemia and abdominal pain are not worked up aggressively, now, as they need to be, your life is in danger. Man up and get to a competent physician.
