A member asked:

What could cause a 19 year old male to develop iron deficiency anemia who has been suffering chronic abdominal pain that comes and goes w/ hashimoto's?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mal-absorption: A likely explanation is the inability to absorb iron. About 1% of the population has Celiac disease and it may present as iron deficiency. It would be prudent to see a GI specilaist.
