Tonsillitis: Tonsillitis typically is caused by viruses that cause the common cold, initially. Sometimes, the infection perists and then bacterial infection develops. Initially treat with conservative measures. Drink plenty of fluids, take analgesics such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain. Try throat lozenges/ sprays for pain. If it progressively worsens by about the 7th day, see MD for exam, culture, Rx.
