Who Knows.: I am not sure if you are describing tendonitis and pain of the tendons passing over the ankle or tendonitis and pain of the tendon passing over the 5th metatarsal. There are other possibilities that can also cause pain in the area of the 5th metatarsal. Capsulitis, stress fracture and neuritis to name a few. The tendon in question is the extensor digitorum longus (EDL). To remove doubt, see a Doc.
