many people say positive ana means nothing as many people without lupus can have that. why is it done to screen for lupus then- if it means nothing?

Titer: If ANA is detected only in serum diluted to about 40 fold, it does not mean a whole lot. However, if it still present after the serum has been diluted 160 fold, it does mean auto-immune response. In other words, the strength of ANA matters. Visit this site for more info.
