I am a type 2 diabetic of my right foot on my big toe it is very swollen and hurts alot i'm wondering if it is possible that i could develop gangrene?

You need to ACT. NOW: Although there are several reasons why your big toe is turning red and swelling, cellulitis and possible infection are the most concerning and demand immediate attention. The fact that your toe hurts a lot could be a good thing in that the toes sensory mechanism has not been compromised. Having diabetes and a possible toe infection are not to be taken lightly. See your doctor immediately.

Try not to get: Yourself worked up as this will only raise your sugar levels. I would not jump to conclusion of an gangrene but I would seek immediate help and if its the weekend then you go to hospital ER. Diabetic foot infections are serious. Now, it may or may not be an infection as gout, or say fracture are possibilities as well. But, have it evaluated now. Good luck.
