It won't help: To take a higher dose than was prescribed, although if you already did so it won't hurt you either. The important thing is to take until all of your prescription is gone. If pain is the problem, ask the dr/dentist for a pain prescription. Good luck!

Tooth infection: Infections of the teeth and gums need be be treated both by antibiotics and by a dentist. Antibiotics alone will not resolve your issues. Discuss dosages and treatment options with your dentist.

How sad: Antibiotics do NOT cure tooth infections. They will limit the spread of infection to other organ systems only for as long as you take the antibiotic. To "cure" a tooth infection requires hands-on intervention (root canal Rx, extraction, etc) by a Dental Professional. Please call a Dentist immediately before the infection gets out of hand.

Temporary relief: Antibiotics will not eliminate a tooth infection. They only reduce the infection to a less active state temporarily. You need to address the tooth causing the infection by having a dentist treat it properly. That means root canal therapy or extraction. One more thing, always take medications as directed and never self medicate, especially with antibiotics.

See a dentist ASAP: Antibiotics are rarely required and should only be used as an adjunct to dental treatment for infection since they may complicate further outcome. Take the NSAID OTC or Tylenol (acetaminophen) to control pain and see a dentist ASAP.
