If diagnosed with bipolar disorder would i have to take medication? are there any natural alternatives? how about counseling by itself?

Bipolar & meds..: No one 'has' to take medication for BD. It depends on your symptoms and goals. Do seek counseling help. Medication is beneficial when BD impairs one's functioning in the workplace or school setting, relationships or leads to trouble with the law. BD has a range of symptoms from mild to severe. Best way to decide is talking with a psychiatrist. I hope this is helpful. Take care.

Depends upon your: symptoms--severe? Mild? Chronic? Situational? Is there a family genetic history? There are many medications that help with this condition, and many psychotherapies, and many herbal/supplemental approaches. Start with a psychiatrist for the meds and history eval, and let the MD refer you if needed. Find out about herbal approaches beforehand and share that with the doc.
