A member asked:

How can i get through to my 17 years old with bipolar disorder? she wants to get better wont take her medication consistently.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Refuses meds: Tough problem! this is the number 1 problem with bipolars. Use medication dispensers, count pills, ensure follow-up visits with her psychiatrist. Reward her when she's compliant, request random blood levels when available( lithium, depakote, etc.).Address side effects such as weight gain.Use long acting injections if applicable.Good luck!
