A member asked:

What's the effect of long term use of insulin therapy for treatment of diabetes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No significant: Insulin is a natural hormone. It is very rare to have allergic reactions to insulin. Occasionally one can see thickening of the skin after years of injecting Insulin into one area. There are no adverse long term effects of insulin, whereas there are many severe long term effects of poorly treated diabetes. Of course, you need to take the correct amount in order to control sugars without low sugar.
