Nothing to mess With: In your remark, no mention was made as to whether this was related to an injury of some sort. No matter, the solution is basically the same. The backside and lateral side of the ankle are enshrouded in a multitude of soft tissue structures. One or more of them could be responsible for the pain. Seek examination: It would be best to seek a physical examination from your podiatrist or foot-and-ankle orthopedist to seek treatment. In the meantime, try to keep off of it, rest, ice, elevate and compression if needbe so that you do not exacerbate the situation.
