Screw Fixation: A true Jones fracture is prone to non-union. In an athletic population, fixation with an intramedullary screw could be appropriate. Depends on the patient and circumstances.

Cast or Surgery: Jone's fractures can be real tricky in terms of healing. If there is a gap between the fractured bones, you will likely need surgery to have a screw placed in it. Otherwise I would say 50:50 with a cast and NO WALKING in the cast, for 6-8 weeks.
