Surgery?: Depending on the type of fracture, position of fragmented pieces, fracture location, your general health, you may need surgery or casting or both. Elbow related fractures frequently require surgery.

Depends: Most mid shaft humeral fractures can be treated non surgically in a fx brace or sling as the bone can accomodate some angulation even if it heals "crooked". Proximal (upper) fractures also can be treated with a sling based on number of fragments and amount of angulation or displacement and overall age/health of patient. Lower fractures near the elbow typically require surgery.
