Same thing: There's a natural hole in the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes to deliver food and drink to the stomach. When this hole stretches out, the stomach can go up in to the chest (herniate). Small amounts of stomach (small hernia) should be ignored. Large hernias are also called paraesophageal hernias, and should be considered for surgical repair. Hope this helps!
