A member asked:

My ct chest scan said there is "dependent atelectasis in the bilateral lower lobes". what does that mean? could it be indicative of a hiatal hernia or diaphragm problem?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Atelectasis means defective expansion or collapse. This can be due to many causes and the ones you mention are rare ones to cause it. The diagnosis has to be confirmed with any clinical signs and symptoms by your MD or a pulmonologist
