A member asked:

Could there be a connection between epilepsy and mild mental illness?

Dr. Adam Hebb answered

Possibly: Epilepsy is a disorder of the regulation of electrical activity in the brain. Often, patients who suffer from epilepsy have constant abnormal electrical activity in the brain. In fact, this typically arises from regions of the brain responsible for making new memories. Epilepsy may also be caused by damage to the brain. This damage could also be the cause of mild mental impairment.
