My doctor says my ala and pbg are both high. what gives?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Asked your doctor?: You've not presented any symptoms which prompted those tests. PBG (porphobilinogen) is a breakdown product of hemoglobin. High numbers mean that PBG's not being cleared through the urine or stools. Conditions such as hepatitis, lead poisoning, porphyria, & other things can cause high levels. ALA (amino levulinic acid) is another test for porphyria. You have abdominal pain or something?
