Many have what is called white coat hypertension that is their BP goes up when they see the Dr. Studies show that there can be an instant rise when someone with a white coat walks in the room. A healthy BP averages less than 120/80 taken with an accurate device on your highest arm with a cuff that is the right size for your arm. Data suggests that whitecoat HTNives are at greater risk for CVD.

I agree with Dr. G's advice. We don't dismiss white coat hypertension as entirely benign. Some consider BP over 120/80 as prehypertension. I think 130/80 or lower is a good goal. You're not a candidate for medication at this time but avoid excess salt,caffeine, alcohol intake, strive for ideal weight,good sleep,regular exercise & avoid stress as much as possible. Continue monitoring your BP
