Not sure about poppy: Liz, every person's hand veins become more prominent with age. Normal veins feel "squishy". They easily move away when you push them. It's normal and not dangerous. Arthritis is also common with age and the most common cause of pain in hands. However, if you have hurt your hand or burst a vein you could have bruise-like pain. Apply warm compresses and it will probably get better. Good luck
