Thrombophlebitis: Sounds like what you have, which means clot in superficial veins. Please see a physician for it. Typical treatment is Ibuprofen and warm compresses.

Needs evaluation.: Veins should not be painful. If you had an IV in your hand then the vein could have been irritated from the iv, but if you did not have this then there is another reason for your painful veins. You need to ensure that you do not have a clot in the vein which is called superficial phlebitis. You should see a vein specialist.
