Not gum: gum would probably get messy but I send a small plastic "chewy" bite stick home with my patients to seat the appliance better and relieve any soreness as they wear the appliance. Makes the Invisalign appliance work better and helps the teeth move faster. Ask your dentist to check on this for you when you see him at your regular appointment.

No: Most gum will stick to the alignersand may interfere with occlusion. The constant chewing will probably damage the plastic trays necessitating costly replacement. And to remove the trays to chew gum, or for any other reason, means less effectiveness, wasting your time and money. Avoid gum.

Not a good idea: Your aligners are not designed to be chewed with. Chewing will shorten their lifespan to less than 2 weeks, which will affect your tooth movement negatively. Aligners are designed to be removed for chewing. Follow the directions givin you to acheive the desired results.

Not recommended: Chewing gum while wearing aligners is not recommended as gum can stick to aligners. It is advised that aligners be removed for all meals and chewing in general.

Sadly, no: you need to take your aligners out to chew gum. As we like you to wear your aligners as much as possible, I do not recommend that you get in the habit of taking them out just to chew the gum. I know it may be a tough habit to break, but you'll have a great smile when you are done!
