A member asked:

Why would a doctor order a thyroid sonogram, what does it show?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Look for nodules: A thyroid sonogram (ultrasound) is a sensitive way of looking at your thyroid for nodules. It also can assess size and texture of the thyroid. Your doctor may have felt enlargement of your thyroid and wants to investigate it further. However, it will not tell you anything about how your thyroid gland is working.
