It depends...: Rates of Side effects vary by type of antidepressant. These are most likely to present during the first couple of weeks of treatment, but the good news is they often go away with continued use. The most commonly prescribed type, SSRIs, are associated with dry mouth, nausea, fatigue, constipation, weight gain, and loss of libido. If these present be sure to discuss with your provider.

SE, how soon?: Most antidepressants are known to cause some uncomfortable, usual non-lethal although very uncomfortable. SE are more frequent at the early stage, usually the first week. Less frequently there is total intolerance, and an alternative SSRI could be more tolerable. Late side effects are less frequent.
